Donald G. Truhlar (1944年2月27日-) アメリカの計算化学者。ミネソタ大学教授。

生い立ち
1944 年シカゴ生まれ。1965 年に St. Mary’s College にて学士号を取得（主専攻：化学、副専攻：数学）。1970 年にカリフォルニア工科大学（California Institute of Technology）にて博士号（化学）を取得。その後、ミネソタ大学に移り1976年に教授に昇進し、現在に至る。
研究内容
化学、物理化学分野で多くの研究成果を発表しており、研究対象は多岐にわたる。
- Density functional design
Truhlar らは、DFT の理論に関して主に二つの研究を行っている。一つ目は、新規の交換相関汎関数の開発である。近年の顕著な研究成果としては、Minnesota 汎関数の開発が挙げられる。とりわけ、M06/M06-2X に関する論文は 8,600 回以上引用されている（参考文献 1）。ちなみに最新の Minnesota 汎関数は xe-PBE0、GAM、MN15-L、MN15 である。
二つ目のは、多配置ペア密度汎関数理論 (multi-configuration pair-density functional theory) の開発である。Kohn-Sham 理論は、単一粒子密度 (singe-particule density) に限定されている。初期に得られた結果は素晴らしく、こちらの論文にて種々の計算手法と計算結果が比較されている。 - 溶媒効果
